Distribution Resources Achieves Solid Results in a Difficult Apparel Market

Kent, WA August 27, 2009 –  Distribution Resources, Inc. (DRI), a leading apparel merchandise third-party logistics provider (3PL) in Kent, Washington announced today significant results with cost management programs in response to the declining market.

DRI implemented a major cost control program in August of 2008 in response to the growing recession.  Labor costs, which account for 45% of costs, were controlled through tighter scheduling and forecasting in response to dropping volume.  Capital investments were curtailed in the past 12 months and overall cost controls achieved a 10% reduction in overhead.  Overall the company has managed to maintain profitability.

DRI’s has seen a modest drop in overall volume in 2009 due in large part to a drop in container volume at the Port of Seattle and the Port of Tacoma.

At the Port of Seattle container volume is down nearly 26 percent in the first four months of 2009 as compared to 2008.  At the Port of Tacoma, container volume fell by more than 16 percent for the first four months of 2009 compared with 2008.

“Mainly we handle wearing apparel,” said President Paul Prusi.  “The apparel industry has been hit by the recession like every industry.  We need to control costs and continue to be a top 3PL in the Pacific Northwest.  Our cost management program has helped us maintain our competitive advantage,” Prusi said.

Prusi said DRI runs at 95% capacity despite the drop in container volume. “We have a strong customer base and have been in business for 20 years.  Local companies in the apparel industry know us.  We’re going to be full most of the time,” Prusi said.
